This app is a wonderful tool for both amateurs and professionals alike The controls are precise and there is no teeny prism to look through aka vintage Lucidas The field of view is the iPad screen which is an obvious practical boon and the creators website has a great buildguide on how to create a basic stable stand to get you up and drawing in no time In only my first day of testrunning it I found the application to be completely malleable and capable of allowing fine detailed work once one creates a stable base for the iPad itself                 Exceptional Camera Lucida

Using the App for the first time it become apparent there is a need to work on hand eye coordination There is a very slight delay between the movement of my hand and the image on my screen This is actually a good thing if your goal is to learn to draw without this sort of aid Art teachers tell me that I need to learn to draw without looking at my paper but rather by looking at the subject This helps develop a feel for the subject This app does that The directions for building a stand for my I phone were indispensable I altered them to include a large base that doubles as my drawing board Im new to drawingpainting so this might only apply to me if Im going to screw up a piece of work it will be during the first 30 minutes when Im doing the outline Using the Camera Lucida eliminates that                 DMD

got this app this morning and have been messing with it all day I never write reviews but this app does what it says and it works like it claims and when you email you get an answer right away Just get the app and enjoy all sorts of fun and creativity                 AMAZING

The earlier version of Camera Lucida was terrific This new release is a knockout As much as I love drawing and painting on my iPad theres nothing like working with real paint real pencils and the sensuousness of real paper You can accelerate your learning by watching the videos and reading the web site Be prepared to be surprised I have recommended this app to several friends who though interested in art but were intimidated by the drawing process Camera Lucida has opened new possibilities for them I have been drawing and painting for most of my life and made a living creating on a Mac I had been frustrated that I could not put the technology to use other than to scan compose print and then project onto a canvas in a totally dark room flipping the lights on an off to check myself With Camera Lucida the path is so much smoother from concept to completion This is a brilliant use of the two cameras on iPhones iPods and iPads All except the first generation iPad It works better than the traditional camera lucida for transferring images to any surface and truly more functional than my 400 Artograph Super Prism The light bulb for the Artograph is six dollars Your source image is viewed on the screen as you see your working surface through user controllable transparency of the source image You can zoom in for working with fine detail and move back and forth with the sliders between different opacities 100 source image to 100 natural media image and every degree in between After a bit of practice the process will become intuitive to you It takes a little while for you to tune in to the handeye coordination necessary if you usually draw from life Secure your drawing surface with tape raise your iDevice on a stack of books or a solid tripoddevice holder and lock it down so that the iPad doesnt wobble and your drawing doesnt slip Your image remains aligned with your drawing This is not as complex as this sounds The zoom and pan feature boggles my mind I can zoom in and out pan to whatever part of the image I want and continue drawing with the image still aligned The scale is only limited by your imagination I have just mirrored this app onto my large screen TV through my Apple TV This way I could work with a much larger format The distance from the iOS device to the drawing surface determines the size of the final piece This is a oneofakind app there are no others for for real drawing with iOS and I have not found an art projector that works as well It is worth the purchase price and much more Bravo to the developer of Camera Lucida for creating a valuable and original artists tool June 7 2013 Update Great new features added thank you                 Bridges the Gap Between Digital and Natural Media

I seem to do fairly well artistically on my own except for getting proportions just right And when I dont I get frustrated and scrap everything The fun is taken out of it Thats where this app comes in I can take a photo any photo and have the proportions projected onto my work surface taking all of the hard part out of it It closes the gap in my abilities making it possible to turn out a fantastic and impressive work Calligraphers leatherworkers sketchers painters printmakers etc You need this app It will be worth every penny                 Fantastic Tool

I NEVER EVER rate apps but I absolutely love this app sooo much that I had to take the time to rate it I use this app to decorate cookies and it works perfectly I follow the developers advice and use my kids Legos to make stands to hold up my iPad Still have to try it on a cake though Oh and this is so much cheaper than a KK                 Best App

Loved this app but I can not even open it anymore It keeps shutting off I dont want to delete it Please get this fixed I hope to be adding some starts soon     What Happened

If this had a stand to hold the cameraphone and a Grid to keep things lined up it would be useful Keeping everything aligned it harder for me than just normal drawing Clever concept so Ill give it two starts despite it being possible to use        Too hard to actually use

I didnt like the app There was a ton of lag I could only put my ipad in one position because of the camera which caused me to draw upside down and the most horrible drawing Ive done The books I had to stack it up on were in her way although that might be just me        Um

This app is the reason I own an iPhone Ive made Camera Lucidas using silvered mirrors but they dont have the features this has Also I use this app to paint in oil The posterize and levelize commands help you to visualize depth and can make anyone an artist Ive been drawing and painting for 32 years and I wish I had this app when I started as Id be daVinci by now There was one rating about lag time and Ive never experienced a lag even once as Ive used this on iPhone 4 and 5C with iOS 57 I have a busted up Dell laptop and Im able to use the iPhone and record the screen using Airserver There is a lag of a quarter second but this is due to Airserver and not Camera Lucida Best artists app on the planet                 Incredible

Ive been wanting a projector to use for cookie and cake decorating but cant afford the 300 500 price tag This app fits the bill in price and form factor Those projectors take up a ton of space which I dont have either Im so glad I came across this                 Just what I was looking for

A camera lucida allows you to see your drawing surface and your subject photo at the same time When you draw you look at your iPad screen thats held over your paper Check out the videos on YouTube if you want to see how it works Its really different and clever Other apps that are trying to copy this one are starting to pop up but this one blows them and the traditional prism camera lucidas out of the water Get some paper a pencil and a flower vase or something to hold your iPad steady over your drawing and go for it                 Love it Do yourself a favor and just get it

This app is amazing Not only does it work as a camera lucida but the included filters can change images into sepia tones line art and more Perfect tool when you want to practice painting or some other technique and need a quick layout drawing done to exact measurements                 Works perfectly

Camera Lucida is the most elegant solution for transferring resizing and composing drawings I have tried many methods for transferring my original art but I find the camera lucida app the most satisfying accurate and flexible For years as an airbrush artist I transferred my thumbnail drawings first with tracing paper and home made carbon paper then when I could afford a ArtoGraph projector which was limited to a small 6x6 drawing and best used in a totally dark room I even built my own Camera Lucida with a stand I made of plywood and a partially silvered mirror again a very hard to see ghostly image much like the projector was cast on the paper Then came my Ipad2 and the Camera Lucida app What an Improvement I use my Camera Lucida app with my Ipad2 the transparent image projected on the drawing surface is totally adjustable and the brightness of your drawing surface is lighted as bright as you want even in sunlight unlike the Art projector Of course the better support you have to hold your iPhone or iPad the better results you will have Im on my third ipad support design constructed from repurposed items at virtually no cost My first iPad holder was a letter holder with an adjustable arm the second was a old photo enlarger To see these support designs check out the Camera Lucida Facebook page search for cameralucidaapp Try Camara Lucida app you will be pleased at the simplicity and results in capturing the correct proportions perspectives and likenesses I draw technical drawings of ship with complex curves and perspectives with great results I love all the extras included with the app to modify your original photo Since I typically render most of my work in graphite so I love in app option to convert the original into shades of gray I great app to help you be creative and have fun exploring all the drawing tools and possibilities                 My favorite Art App

Because of the fact that it uses the camera to superimpose the image onto a surface and that one needs to look at the screen in order to see what one is doing the size of the reproduction is small though the iPad allows for a bigger image and therefore a bigger tracing this app has its limitations There is nothing to be done about that HOWEVER It does what it can very well and keeps on getting better A simple grid would be helpful to set up points so in the unfortunate occasions when the iPad or surface being traced upon moves a bit it would be easier to realign With some ingenuity which SHOULD be part of the creative process this is an incredible app The best you can get until the iPad comes with a projector built into it                 Great given its inherent limitations

I paint miniatures with an average size being 2 x 3 inches or smaller with as much detail as I can I can draw and do still but I am slow slow slow If I use a photo I must shrink it down first in some program Ill never understand wasting time and paper getting the size I want This Lucida is perfect for my needs I created a stand out of Legos use some BluTak to adhere the camera to the stand stand to table et voila Perfect miniscene I depend on my drawing and painting skills to transform the tracery into the final painting fast fast fast Yippee                 Love It

Ive never been an artist but have always been fascinated by pencil drawings I was inspired to look for a tool like this after seeing Tims Vermeer and this app completely blew my mind It allows a complete novice to actually draw something Im totally sold and will be using this all the time Ill probably never been a great artist but this is tons of fun to use and produces great results                 This is awesome

This is a great app for doing rough sketches of things like birds to get the proportions right for later watercolor and detail work Have found nothing that works anywhere near as good as this                 Most excellent

It takes getting used to in getting your hand oriented to the direction to draw But that would be the same with what ever instrument was being used So I know what will be occupying my time now I did an eye in about 20 minutes that was so accurate and beautiful it made me cry I think the forum of people who were using this would be kind of cool Hope to see some upgrades also Like I said pretty cool so far                 Pretty cool so far

I own a Neolucida and I wanted to see the difference in how this app and my Neolucida would compare with one another and I have to say for basic use its a fantastic app Im still trying to get used to the extra features but for using it as I would my Neolucida the learning curve was definitely shorter I was able to jump in and work on drawings right away compared to the setup of the Neolucida and the bit of getting used to look thru it but they are fantastic if you dont own a camera Lucida this is definitely an affordable way of getting one out of your iPhone or iPad                 A great app that works just as well as a camera Lucida

Nice concept although theres a lag between the pencil and the camera There could be other factors in regards to the lag software and hardware        Well

I brought it as I thought it will help me with my cake n cookie decoration but there is a lag between the pencil and image on screen dislike     Not a good app

I have a physical Camera Lucida with prism adjustable arms and angles etc This app far exceeds whats possible with that hardware and is highly recommended for any artist and the 80 updates add even MORE power to the mix                 Amazing technology

My wife has asked me for twelve years why I stopped drawing and I never had a good answer In the month following my purchase of this app I have drawn more than I have in the past twelve years Camera Lucida has made me fall in love with drawing again iTunes has that 15 minute grace period where you can return an app right I wanted to see what I could accomplish in that 15 minutes and after a very quick sketch session I realized that in the short time I had been sketching I had accomplished hours worth of work This app would be a bargain at twice the price                 Worth every penny
