iCab Mobile (Web Browser)

The last update After being requested to uninstall iCab Mobile from my wifes iPad and iPhone and seeing my son trash it I finally gave up on it as well and went back to Safari It is certainly the Swiss Army knife of iOS browsers It also suffers immensely from offering every sort of functionality widgets and modules that are not particularly functional With iOS 8 iCab simply slows down way to quickly Need to go into Privacy and clear everything quit the app and do a soft reset on the device This will get it working again for a few hours only to have to go thorough all of this again iCab was installed on 2 gen 3 iPad minis an iPhone 4S and 6 Same on all of them If you like to geek around in a multitude of settings modules and functionality go for it If you want a solid browser Id suggest Safari Update Just get it This is by far and away the best browser for the iPad Not sure Id recommend it for casual users For those used to tweaking desktop browsers to fit their needs iCab does it Very stable and fast Ive tried every browser available for ios for lengthy periods of time Most recently Mercury for a year and prior to that Atomic iCab blows them both away Silky smooth fast and never a crash The modules feature is superb User agents work well with no weird stuff other than the IE choices Dropbox integration is excellent using some of the PDF conversion modules Ad blocking is on a par with Atomic the best by far Downloads work very well fast and no issues The closest functionality and stability to a desktop browser Ive found I first tried iCab when it first came out and did not like it Much better now Put some thought and time into the initial setup I went for least display real estate taken up with all the functionality I need at my fingertips        By far the best

Just wish that when I set down my ipad for a few min and it sleeps icab would not show me briefly where I left off then load the start page starting where I left off would be just great                 Great app

I like everyone are searching for a Safari replacement Thought after reading the reviews my search was over For a purchase app I would expect it to well not crash But it does a lot Guess Ill keep searching           Crash

The best one I found anyway I love the unlimited tabs My only complaint is that my open tabs disappear after each upgrade and the upgrades are automatic and unforeseeable causing me to lose some data Please improve that feature Still I have to give this browser five stars for all the other good things it does                 Yup its the best one

This Web Browser is awesome It lets you download almost any file and you can customize it so much You can change the color interface and a lot of other stuff You can also sign into different accounts and use kiosk mode I really recommend this app for people who want a web browser that can be customized completely Of course the app has a couple of bugs but usually the developer fixes it He also does updates like once a month or every 2 months This app has so many features Its way better than safari and doesnt have hidden features like safari There is a button for almost every feature and you can choose which button you want in any location or which buttons you dont want at all Ohh and this isnt a fake review Cuz a lot of people think that when they use good grammar its fake                 The Most Customizable and Functional Web Browser

This isnt for just surfing Thats a waste Its for doing working with files and content online that other browsers can Its all builtin This is a reliable hard working powerful stable iOS browser It has a huge amount of integrated features with apps and services Ive used it for years When I need to get things done save and organize from online content I go to this browser Like when I need to preview docs online format content to print or save download anything including zip files that you can then unzip and view I can export them to a host of clouds apps and social media accounts Most critical is that I can easily locate anything Ive downloaded at any time Months later                 Titanium Transforms iOS online to functional

When it works it is fast Love the privacy feature automatically erasing upon unlocking from sleep when enabled Huge aptitude for customization BUTthere are a few issues The screen refreshes before you complete typing the search string If I try and correct a spelling it will refresh the page before I finish So I search for the wrong thing again and again Also it claims a LOT of network errors and refuses to load pages 50 of the time There is a lot of good going here when it comes to features but the basics make this borderline unusable at this time        Some major drawbacks

This used to be a great app No longer It has become very buggy It crashes on me so much that Ive had to revert to using Safari I miss the previous versions that were actually usable for more than 10 minutes at a time           Buggy

Was an awesome app Until last update Now totally worthless for me Previously had great customer support Now my email contact to developer since last week has gone unanswered Will gladly change rating to 5 stars when bugs are fixed but app is useless for downloading Unless you want to simply admire your download list Will no longer allow you to open in other apps rename or display files Only extremely cumbersome workaround for existing app owners I have found for accessing my downloaded items is to link iCab to a Dropbox account since the only action on the download list that is still working appropriately is the upload to Dropbox thankfully Not ideal but works until this can be fixed If not fixed App is completely useless for me as being able to have access to my downloads IN THE APP as the previous versions did was extremely important Developer Please advise on when this will be fixed or how to roll back to the working version As I had already requested in my private correspondence Thanks     Used to be the best Until last update

I just wanted to say thank you for finally adding the option to use one finger for forward and back swiping You also managed to maintain the pull for new tab and to change tabs too and its perfect Ive been using your browser for many years now and it it just keeps on getting better and better Thanks again for providing such an awesome app                 Still the BEST

This is like the biggest hidden gem of the app store I call it the FireFox of iOS As customizable as it can get Closest experience to desktop browsing even 1password plugin works I paid for this once like back in 2010 I still get free upgrades                 great

This browser does it all Very nice feeling on a tablet makes you feel like you are a desktop browser One of the drawbacks if you consider it one depending on who you are is there is no cloud flash support The rest of the browser is all around fantastic                 Fully desktop experience

Since the latest update on Sep 5 2015 somehow icab browser version 8101 is crashing often I want to go back to version 892 At leat it is stable browsing web sites that is what browsers for     crashing often

Im a heavy user of extensions and integration with other apps and this browser has more than I believed possible in a mobile browser and without getting ugly iCab lets you configure all aspects of the user interface including multiple modular secondlevel menus and fully customizable 2 3 4finger gestures It even includes a drawing box where you can create your own gestures The browser also connects with dozens of social networks and cloud services and provides all the tools and extensions Ive ever used on my desktop including Firefox sync Ive only used iCab for about a week now and I was equally delighted and overwhelmed by the sheer number of options Ive already made 3 passes through the configurations selecting and honing the functionality and interface Thank goodness you can make items you dont use invisible and get them out of the way or go back to defaults All the lists are well organized and and designed to make all that configuring intuitive Quite amazing overall                 Fantastic FullFeatured Browser

This is my everyday allpurpose browser Ive been using it since 2010 first on an iPod touch 2 then later a first gen iPad and through various iterations of the os my devices and iCab Ive watched a fantastically fully featured browser move closer and closer to perfection over the years There are so many tiny niceties available in iCab that one would be hard pressed to exhaust them all But my favorites Being able to download to its own sandbox even pictures and video unless I choose to send them to device album Quick browser Id switching so if the dog or even iso that I need to get to another machine wont download if it thinks Im using the iPad version of safari I just change the id to the desktop version or tell it to report that Im using Firefox for windows or whatever if need be Ad filteringso many forums sell themselves out to ad networks that want to highlight keywords and show a pop up Certain content mills are notoriously riddled with ads and tracking networks that one would be crazy to browse them with a regular browser indeed one might find that sites youd given up on using your iPad or phone are fine if you let iCab always tell them youre using a desktop browserand yes you can set that on a site by site case in the preferences Multiple profiles and kiosk mode let me painless allow a friend to browse or keep business sites and accounts separate from my daily use And everything is available to be backed up to Dropbox or a number of other services And modules View source Display all images Firebug lite In page search Truly you have to pity the barbarians who arent using such a useful browser All that plus active development by someone who is honestly interested in creating a powerful browser iCab has been around since Mac OS 9 Youre using pedigreed but never legacy code when youre using this browser If youve felt restricted browsing the web with your iPhone or iPad felt a need to grab a laptop or go to a desktop just to get one niggling thing done try this Youll probably find that you can do itfor whatever value of it iswith iCab                 Tremendously useful the best app Ive ever bought for iOS

Ive been using iCab Mobile for about two months and I absolutely love it Ive been spoiled by the number and quality of all of the built in features that can be customized to fit anyones needs My favorite update was the addition of a little white flare under your finger when you select a link in the bookmarks bar Really nice touch to let someone with iffy closeup vision to know that the touch registered As the number of ad filters grow to handle new ad pushers the app crashes once in a while BUT unlike other browsers with ad blockers just tapping it open again loads the page and carries on It doesnt freeze or require restarting                 Im hooked after less than a month

Browser is great Helps me download videos from all websites Would be much better if we can save the files to iPhone photos While trying to open flv files browser is crashing Need to be fixed              Awesome browser

Does it occasionally close yes just like they all do not the apps fault but the fault of the iPad itself The browser is fabulous fast full featured good looking without being stupid more like a desktop browser than any others Ive tried Keeps a ton of bookmarks which I like has ability to send full pages to Evernote and such backs up bookmarks and settings to Dropbox and such and just overall is the only browser I have used constantly now for several years If I had my wish it would be to have this same browser on my iPad more than once because I keep my interests separated to some extent just to keep track Probably silly but thats how I like it and in this Im the important factor Ive looked and looked for another one like iCab to no avail The developer is the most responsive person ever usually answering me within just a few hours and never fails to help me figure out whats happening or how stupid Ive been Get it Doubt youll regret it but you will have to look through all the settings to get the most from it Take the time Its worth it                 The BEST Browser Still

After being horribly burned by Atomic which hasnt been updated in years and Mercury which has become malware this is the best iOS browser bar none BEWARE It is not idiot proof and will take some time to learn The built in help is cursory at best and you should spend some time learning how each setting works If you learn how to use it you will become endlessly delighted with what it can do for you                 Best iOS Web Browser PERIOD

iCab is my favorite mobile browser due to its many great features that most do not have That being said the recent update has dropped stability a bit and caused it to use up more battery Even with low to medium usage it is far more battery consuming than other apps              Best Mobile Browser But Stability Dropped

I am running iCab 881 with iOS 712 on an iPhone 5 After fumbling with early mobile Safari for a year I switched to iCab in 2009 both mobile and desktop Both mobile versions have improved a lot since then and now I cannot judge whose interface is better I suppose I dislike Safari mostly because I am not used to it however Safari customization does seem limited iCab mobile is hugely customizable Being a creature of habit I overlook many possibilities until I am forced to reconsider all of them that is when I rashly choose to reset all iCab settings in the iOS System Settings I have never really needed this option but I have rashly chosen it a few times and then I have to plow through the setting options I forget how comfy I get with all these choices until this happens or when I get stuck with Safari for a few hours iCab offers superb control of the interface what displays where Regular and fullscreen modes are set separately with options to control switching between them I especially like the option to retain the old separation of URL and search fields because the separate fields come with more helpful keyboards iCab also offers a great feature to reset the iCab Session in System Settings preventing the reopening of tabs on startup useful in two situations 1 Malware hangs up iCab This has happened to me only once that I recall 2 A web page crashes iCab This happened often years ago but almost never in the last few years iCabs memory management is excellent The only time iOSs draconian memory czar kills iCab is when it is struggling with a single huge web page I can have a dozen or more tabs set I specify that background pages not open until surfaced More recently rather than open a ton of tabs I add URLs to my local reading list I extensively use iCabs customizable taps and swipes for various numbers of fingers My favorite is 3finger tap for history which compensates for the lack of a backup popup that desktop browsers have Taps and swipes do everything I need so I have not yet used the customizable multitouch gestures or draw gestures iCab mobile offers dozens of tools and Internet services that I dont use My favorite tools are filters to avoid spam malware and ads local reading lists and a choice of 20 search engines I recently set up two users Admin and Guest and now I dont have to worry about borrowers looking at my history The privacy features include private mode the ability to discard selected information after a chosen time I choose to discard cookies and HTTP authentication after 10 minutes of inactivity With my Admin user being private I dont feel a need to delete tabs history web caches and so forth There is limited support for separate settings for specific web sites You can whitelist specific URL patterns agains the filters You can set specific browser IDs override the global setting I choose to identify iCab mobile as a desktop browser generally so I receive a regular web page with certain sites getting a mobile browser ID instead Once every blue moon or so twice in six years iCab has thrown me a wrench The last time I got locked out of Admin I wrote Developer Clause and got a prompt response to correct the problem but by then I was already fed up with Safari I misread version 881 as 81 causing much needless confusion but he helped anyway The only previous time I had saved hundreds of local copies of web pages when an update replaced the local copy option with another way to save web pages downloading them I think and all my local copies were suddenly turned into mere URLs Many of these URLs were stale so I lost content That was only time iCab annoyed me Its a pity that iCab mobile plays better with Firefox desktop than iCab desktop iCab mobile supports 1Password iCab desktop does not Oh well Response of the developer has been outstanding with frequent updates and amazingly fast responses to emails I try not to abuse this feature and fortunately have infrequent need because builtin help is quite good and the app is very stable                 My browser since 2009

Even after todays update not all Firefox bookmarks are syncing to iCab Mobile           Firefoc Sync

I really like this browser but since the last update I can no longer make folders in my bookmarks folder Selecting new folder does nothing Please fix if I can not organize my bookmarks I will have to find another browser     Broken by updates
