I use this every day and love how it s so versatile I wish there was an option to back up notes and settings or choose to export to iCloud or Google Drive That would make it more awesome                     Love this app brian0r
This application continues to be the very best Japanese dictionary available on iOS Stroke order agnostic handwriting recognition SKIP and radical search among plenty of other features all with a very clean interface that is easy to use                     Still the best Japanese English dictionary for iOS evanjs@mal
This is by far the Best Japanese dictionary app ever i ve learned so many Japanese words because of this                     The Best skzamel
I feel like I need to write another review for Midori I ve been using it for over 4yrs now and it has never disappointed There are number of reasons I like it not the least of which is because I can look up words without clearing the search menu and it still separates and displays all the results I also own another popular Japanese dictionary app Japanese which I think it good but I always go to Midori when doing some serous translations and tough Japanese reading This app is definitely a must for serious Japanese learners I m not an employee for Midori but I think you should invest in this app                     The best Japanese dictionary app out there Oda79
I have had this app for over 8 years and is always my go to While there had not been any crazy new look or special new pink elephant type updates the app dictionary keeps working well and I haven t been charged for an update or forced into some useless subscription schemes so 5 stars from me                     Awesome App happy they still update db.1
Not only the best Japanese dictionary but the best of any foreign language dictionary that I ve found UI is clean and easy to navigate The flash card system is fantastic for learning vocabulary and the adaptive recall system is the perfect amount of functionality without bombarding you with endless options that you need to configure Using the flash card system I was able to learn almost 1000 words in about a month by simply reviewing the recommended cards for each day Only thing that s lacking please make an equivalent app for Chinese                     This app is fantastic Cheunga22
This app is simply amazing It not only has vocabulary but also many Kanji and their components Everything is very clear The examples are very helpful too I love that I can scribble something and get the Kanji that I m after I use this app every day                     Super useful for Nihongo reference Nathan Fiedler
Have been using for 3 years OUTSTANDING app                     Midori app 2212122222
An otherwise fantastic app for English speaking learners of Japanese Midori has wonderful options for searching and learning Japanese even in spite of a few Japanglish example sentences at least for the iPhone The iPad version of this app is outdated and I assume from the dearth of updates now unsupported             iPhone Only rlquinn1980
This app is both a terrific Japanese dictionary and a tool for helping one learn Japanese You can do almost anything you d want to do with Japanese from looking up words studying Kanji studying example sentences etc This version adds a Safari extension which makes it even more useful you can now translate Japanese web pages directly from Safari                     Terrific becomes even more useful Wennefer
Midori is the very best kanji and Japanese dictionary I have found anywhere I have deleted all my other kanji dictionaries I don t even use my paper dictionaries anymore I have been studying Japanese for 40 years sad I know and I have never used anything better I have been waiting for this technology all my adult life For some more hyperboles This app is the best app I own on my iPad and iPhone The iPad was designed for solving the problem of looking up kanji It works smoothly I have never experienced any glitches Aesthetically it is a beautiful app With a tap you can view the kanji drawn stroke by beautiful stroke teaching you how to write the kanji Congratulations to the developers Thank you Update more on amazing service As always the developer is of such great help He always respond so quickly and his directions are clear and easy to follow Thank you again for a great product I recommend Midori to all my colleagues June 2014 Breathtaking Another amazing update Now I can read Safari in Japanese tap the up button and ask for Furigana to be place on the kanji and or choose Midori to translate and then all of the article is automatically transferred over to my Midori app to be translated Was that completely incomprehensible Midori will explain this new service step by step I don t know how the other apps can compare This is the most amazing app It is hands down the best I app I have for ANYTHING                     Midori incomparable mbfitzmahan
Why fast and easy to look up words names characters with handwriting romaji and now Safari extension no more copy and pasting exporting lists to e mail csv to backup lists easily translate long blocks of text at once always being updated and improved fully available offline quiz function for those studying One of my most used apps Thank you                     Best Japanese dictionary app M. M. Y.
This app is really amazing The multiple ways to search romaji hiragana or kanji radicals is incredibly convenient I use it almost every day primarily for inputting new words to the bookmark flash card section The only problem I have is not about content only usability The flash cards only allow you to see the Japanese first instead of offering English first as well If there was the option to use either Japanese or English first I feel like the language learning benefit would be improved Again despite my tiny usability issue overall this app is incredibly useful and anyone interested in learning Japanese will definitely benefit from it                     Almost perfect RissaG12
As an English speaker living in Japan for the past year and a half I have found this app extremely helpful I bought it when I had zero Japanese ability and now am studying for my n2 exam I utilize almost all the functions of this app daily from studying vocabulary to looking up words I don t understand in daily life I love that I can save words in my own lists for later study The new updates including the additional common label for words as well as being able to write any stroke order have made this app even more convenient When learning new vocabulary I love that most words have multiple example sentences Adding sentences to more words can make this excellent app even more outstanding I think this app is worth every Thank you                     I use this app everyday CKYrunner
I use this app everyday I ve actually been using this app for years now It has been incredibly useful and easy to use I am so glad that I got this app Worth every penny I spent on it                     Reliable 夊使ぎ翟
There really are only 2 good Japanese dicts in the AppStore One is named Japanese and never gets updated and this one Fun tip try the Safari extension in other Apps If they use the same mechanism Safari does it will work Love the new features                     Still the best now with a Safari extension Leo of BORG
It s the best app with tons of features worth of 9 99 With that I can do almost everything concerning with japanese language Similar kanji translate easy bookmark kanji with JLPT level Grade level loanwords and so many features to use Almost every feature is useful                     Best App Yannaing574
Throughout my classroom studies study abroad and continued independent study and correspondence with Japanese friends this app has been an invaluable tool that has made my life so much better and enabled me to learn and communicate much more easily than I could otherwise I m especially grateful that things continue to improve and always impressed by the amount of seemingly obscure slang that is included as well There have been many times when a Japanese friend stumped in trying to explain a word to me will wave a hand dismissively and say only to have their jaw drop when Lo and behold Midori did in fact know the word Thank you so much to the people who make and maintain this app It has made my life so much better At my friend s suggestion I still lovingly and sincerely refer to it as                     Best 10 I ve ever spent Eriias
Simple and fast but very comprehensive Good for casual learning up to serious academic studies Great support constant improvements and updates                     5 Stars werther55
For any serious student learning Japanese this app is worth the investment                     Worth your money SnooPINGASusual
Thorough dictionary with tons of example sentences and a responsive interface                     Fantastic D. Faraday
Lived in Japan 14 years This is by far the most convenient and flexible dictionary A must have for learning and communicating in Japanese                     My default dictionary in Japan Synctrooper
Honestly I have one of those fancy electronic dictionaries they cost a few hundred dollars Midori is better than that and it costs far less                     The best Japanese dictionary you can buy TooManyGadgets
I use it daily to help read manga and light novels It has a ton of useful features and it s easy to export your lists to Anki                     still the best Japanese dictionary Bob87262
should be elected as a featured app by apple                     Very good developer justlittleofurtime
This app changed my Japanese study life Having nearly given up on learning kanji Midori s flash cards feature and pre made lists gave me the boost I needed Best dictionary I ever purchased by far Thank you                     Single biggest help to Jpn study RASCPA
I remember sitting in Japanese 401 and one of my friends had this app I didn t have an iPhone at the time but this app was a deciding factor in making the switch from android I was so envious because of the length you wouldn t even begin to think this app goes to Example sentences Loan words organized by the language Japanese borrows from Kanji AND words organized by JLPT level Plus much more                     The BEST Dictionary Investment peachyjams
Calling this app just a dictionary is an insult to the app It s depth is so incredible that while it hasn t replaced my textbooks it sure comes close It has helped immensely in my kanji studies to the point that it plays an integral role With this app it allows me to see the relationships between various kanji to help me get a better understanding of each meaning This app is so good I d switch over from Android just to use it I love it just that much I can t recommend this enough I don t really purchase apps but this app is so well worth it I had to leave a review for people who are like me None of this is hyperbole I really do love this app so much Denouttaden                     The best app to aid in Japanese study Deverex
This app has been indispensable for me while studying The update also has made it better because when it comes to kanji that you may not get the stroke order right for you can now have options pop up Where earlier if the order was wrong you had no chance This caused me to have to jump back and forth between this and Google Translate just to find the character I needed Also I love the fact that the example sentences are now an option along with the names and words It makes everything so much smoother and I m loving it                     I ve been using this app around 2 years now 1257;)rigg
It s useless without info about where the accent is in a word It also doesn t provide sample pronunciation Useless in learning Japanese I can google for simply translation purposes     Lack accent 学徒chris
Ive had both imiwa and Japanese but midori is pretty much the only app I use on a daily basis Layout is nice and clean and its easy to use and imo looks better overall than the other two Would be nice to see it on other platforms such as Mac A minor issue I have with it is that the speed of the speech function is quite fast and cannot be controlled even when I try to change it in the speech accessibility settings Another thing Id love to see would be an addition of a radicals list similar to what Japanese by Renzo has For now I guess Ill have to manually make my own but I think it will be a useful tool to others as well                 My goto Japanese dictionary app
Its beautiful simple reliable intuitive and much more useful than I thought it was going to be It replaced almost every other Japanese app I had before Definitely worth the purchase if you are deciding between apps                 Perfect
As a student of Japanese I am always needing to look up a certain kanji or find the definition of a word When I see a kanji I dont know I can draw it in and it will bring it up I also have the option of searching by radical if I cant guess the stroke order Its sort of fun in a way because Im able to discover new kanji all the time It shows the stroke order onkun readings other words that use the particular kanji and an example sentence Its smooth easy to learn how to use and can be used without any internet I keep my phone on airplane mode and use it during class You can search it in English and Japanese Something else I like to do is look up a verb and it will show me all the conjugations If I need to know what katakana is used in a countrys name or something it will also list it for me Ive never written a review before so forgive me if this is lengthy or jumbled but please dont hesitate to get the app I think it was about 11 and it was worth it I would have bought it even if it cost more if I had known how wonderful of an app it would be You can bookmark kanji and other words to bring them up later There are all sorts of little features that make me love Midori so much Its just so easy to use and useful in so many ways No matter if youre an expert or a beginner Midori is the best dictionary app                 I use it every day
Awesome app I am currently studying abroad in Japan taking Japanese courses and this app has helped me with everything There has never been a time where a kanji didnt show up The writing feature is also very helpful Thank you Midori                 Recommended for students
Used this dictionary for living in Japan and didnt have trouble with outdated vocabulary Sample sentences help tremendously in finding the correct word to use Also the name search has greatly helped in figuring out how to read names in kanji I love that the dictionary has customizable flash cards and can add notes which I used a lot for JLPT N2 study Its a great app I dont even use my 20000 denshijisho anymore                 Great dictionary for daily use and JLPT study
I cant believe all these wonderful updates They just keep making this great app even better                 Love It
Great app but would be even better if it supported iCloud so I could synchronize all of my devices Also it tends to crash when Im typing too fast or exporting my bookmarks              Great dictionary
Need to figure out some kanji but dont have an electronic dictionary at hand This is the next best thing                 Next best thing to an electronic dictionary
The catch to this app is its not immediately for beginners Recommend that one first learn hiragana katakana That being said its one of the best apps Ive seen for studying Japanese It breaks down words with meaningssoundsother near words plus goes into detail about any kanji It also contains separate lists for words of origin by language and pronounsverbsnounsetc I love app どもありがとうございます                 Pushing study habits
App is great but search seems to be broken in a recent update For example 食べる cant be found by search but I can get to it through the kanji character associated with it              Broken Search in Recent Update
I use another dictionary for most things but this one is the best for when I need to look up a person or place name              Excellent for looking up proper nouns
I use this app every day and I love it It is thoughtfully designed and easy to use and yet the developer continuously releases improvements to make it even better Ive been very satisfied with this dictionary and have never felt the need to look for a different one                 I love Midori
Seriously the best dictionary app It has all the word forms kanji with proper stroke order and related phrases Every language needs a dictionary like this one                 Flippin Amazing
Hands down for the best Japanese dictionary This app helped me survived 4 years of Japanese classes When I am confused on some words or dont understand certain words in a paragraph this app could help me find the answer The sample sentences are so helpful especially if there are several forms for the words I could figure out how to use the word correctly with the example they provide Also there are lists of kanji with stroke orders I learned a lot from this app Totally worth the money                 Best Japanese dictionary
Its so wonderful when an app does everything you hoped and more at such high quality This app is way more than a dictionary Its a learning environment I love the flashcards I love how you can go seamlessly from word to a particular Kanji character with the stroke order shown immediately so you dont have to go hunting for it I LOVE the example sentences I just keep hitting More at the bottom and they keep appearing The lists of JPLT vocabulary are very useful for me too since Im studying on my own and they give me a good sense of the words I should know Thank you very much for making this app                 Fantastic app
This appears to be a good app so far but I think if you all would add the readings kunyomi and onyomi of each kanji in the compound that would help people out a ton Thank you              Please add individual readings of Kanji
Thanks for the fixes Awesome app as always                 ミドリを作ってくださってありがとうございました
I wish I would have looked elsewhere Kanji recognition is frustrating at best and this app was buggy with my bluetooth keyboard Think twice        MR
This is some of the best money Ive ever spent 6 years ago I bought a Canon Wordtank G50 in Japan for 25000 This app outshines the Wordtank in every single feature Ill give this app 5 stars when they improve the syncing capability between devices Having to email myself a file is a little troublesome and awkward              Worth every penny Buy Now
I tried so many dictionary apps many years ago but the one that always was updated and being constantly improved was Midori The developer is responsive to feedback and should be praised for his work That said I use this app every single day Its worth paying for                 The king of Japanese dictionaries for English speakers
This app is a bargain for what it is For native English speakers approaching the daunting task of learning Japanese Midori is an indispensable tool                 Greatest app for learning Japanese
When performing a hand written kanji search the dictionary seems to take stroke order into account The problem is most students may not know the stroke order For example try writing the kanji yama with various stroke orders The kanji for yama only appears on the first page high in the results list if you get the stroke order exactly correct This makes using the kanji search for novices extremely difficult Would love to have an option to ignore stroke order in the handwritten kanji search Then this app would get five stars           Needs one critical feature
Byso far the best Japanese dictionary I have found I use it to identify kanji all the time Looking for a great dictionary app Look no further Keep up the good work                 Great
Midori is one of the few apps that makes me feel owning an iPad is for more than just gaming A friend of mine recommended me and I installed a crack version just to test it out But after a day I uninstalled the crack and bought the app Every cent is worth it Now Midori becomes part of my daily life Like watching anime JDrama listening songs translating and stuffs The search functions provided are really good and I find it quite useful If u are looking for a good dictionary Midori is definitely the right choice Just go for it you wont regret                 Definitely the RIGHT choice
Great tool to learn Japanese It would be better if I can save the bookmarks to iCloud and sync between different devices              Excellent
Update 112015 Getting better and betterlove to hear a word now This is a wonderful study tool on the iPad iPhone interface not tested for the serious student Use in conjunction with class or other booksprograms to conquer this language Very effective use of the 10 display Written kanji recognition works well for all kanji tested up to 12 strokes With practice you can learn the expected order when faced with an unknown Use of bookmarks and the flashcard study tool is easy with the ability to set up multiple folders for different study groups Very well done                 Wonderful on iPad for serious study
This is the best Japanese dictionary on the App Store and frankly anywhere very easy to use and has lots of detail                 Best Japanese dictionary
As an advanced learner of Japanese the dictionary file the app is great but the handwriting recognition software is terrible Compared to the stock apple recognition or the Chinese dictionary Pleco I also use mandarin for work this Japanese dictionary only gets the character you want after 510 tries if at all Get it only if you dont depend on handwriting to get difficult characters           Handwriting recognition needs work
I love this app and wouldnt be where I am in my Japanese learning without it passed JLPT N2 working on N1 I love that I can save unknown words to a bookmark list then export that list and use Epwing2Anki to create Anki flashcards from it It was also a godsend when I went to Japan for a month in April My only problem with this app On my iPad 2 it crashes frequently when adding a word to a bookmark list I would say it crashes with about every eighth or ninth add Hopefully this will be fixed in an upcoming rev              Great app but crashes frequently on bookmark save
Ive been studying Japanese for over 14yrs and this app is by far better than any other Japanese dictionary app on the market It has a very versatile search input and does better than the other apps out there Dont waist your money on the others Buy this one                 The best Japanese dictionary app out there
いいじしょですよ 日本語をべんきょう時つかています 買いって下さい ジョナス              はい
Worth every penny Userfriendly interface and extensive content functions etc A suitable substitute for a traditional electronic dictionary                 Perfect
Great app I use it several times a day every day One suggestion though Id like the option of looking up words by their SKIP code Sometimes it can be very helpful                 Recommended
Ive been studying Japanese for a while now I have tried a lot of paper dictionaries and dictionary apps from both the App Store and Google play I love this one the most The interface looks good with iOS 7 and it has a lot of entries and features without taking up more than 300 mbs cough cough I think its more useful to the people who already have a basic knowledge of Japanese though especially with the translate function 作ってくれてありがとうございますよく役に立ちますわ                 Best Japanese dictionary Ive ever had
There should be a history of all what youve looked up to find recent items                 Suggestion
Ive tried the other Japanese dictionary apps imiwa and Japanese along with this one and I dont think this one is that great for serious use Heres my problem Im reading a Japanese book and come across a kanji I dont know how to pronounce 測 but I know what it means fathom So I go to look it up by entering in the English meaning but it does not return the kanji Im looking for So thinking that Ive got the meaning wrong I go look it up based on radicles and stroke order which everyone knows is a pain and lo and behold there it is And the meaning is listed right there in black and white as fathom So why cant I find it when I enter in fathom That is really really annoying I tested my other two dictionary apps btw and only Japanese returned the kanji I was looking for Honestly if you want this to be a serious Japanese dictionary you have to be able to find kanji with it as easily as possible Sometimes you only know how to pronounce it without knowing the meaning but sometimes you only know the meaning You need to be able to find the kanji youre looking for using any info you have about it without having to count the friggin strokes and dive into the radicles If I could Id ask for my 10 back for this        Not good compared to other dictionaries
Awesome dictionary Thanks for keeping it up to date                 Great app
I use this app every day Wonderful tool Much more than a dictionary                 Best of its class
This dictionary is the only one I use literally and I do mean literally everyday for my Japanese class and personal study It has a smooth and simple feel very easy to navigate through and it even has stroke order kanji meanings and a dictionary for names If there are updates in the future would the creator please consider adding a history of recent items I find myself often comparing words and their meanings but I have to type repeatedly to compare Another thing I would like to suggest is an indicator of how common a word is in everyday usage jishoorg has a good example For someone like myself that studies additional vocabulary outside of class I tend to see any unfamiliar word used in the examples in this dictionary as something to memorize But as of right now my priority is to learn the words most commonly used to have a firm grasp of everyday conversation in Japan I am planning on studying as well as teaching there in the future and this addition especially will help me focus on what I really need to study to communicate with natives It isnt possible to express my appreciation for this ap how much it has helped me throughout my studies                 Simply the best
I have nothing but good things to say about this appI just recently realized the use of the translate Tab funny but true let me tell you one word for that is brilliant being a dictionary and all just brilliant Now my only slight gripe is that I usually read at night I wish there was a function to dim the screen within the app like a night mode Please consider this Thank you                 Awesome
Easily the best Japanese dictionary on the App Store The new update with pronunciation with a tab and French definitions is so helpful                 Decent update
Update 3 years later still love this app It is so good that if you are not studying Japanese you should start just so that you can enjoy Midori The translate feature is fantastic I just didnt understand what it did at first Of all the many apps Ive downloaded since I got my first iPhone back in 2007 this is the one I like the most Really well done I just spent 45 months in Japan and used it 30x a day It has just about everything you could possibly want I love how you can keep romaji switched off how it lists kanji radicals and lets you jump to them and how it has nearly every word I look up For the beginner to intermediate Japanese student or gaijin in Japan this app is perfect                 I love this app
This is by far the best app I have used for a Japanese dictionary it has replaced all my others It has extensive search features including drawing kanji with your finger and it does NOT need Internet connectivity to be 100 effective Most of all it includes an extensive vocabulary including specialized terms that I have not found in any other edictionary ie I am a geologist and have been able to use it to find many terms I have not seem in other dictionaries I highly recommend this app It is worth all the money                 Great app
This app is one of the most impressive pieces of software Ive ever encountered It does everything you could possibly want in a Japanese dictionary and it is beautifully designed and extremely intuitive to use I use it all the time but I still occasionally happen on a delightful feature I hadnt noticed before For example I just discovered that tapping the kanji stroke order brings up an actual animation of writing the character and you can even fast forward and rewind it Since the static stroke order chart already provides the needed information this kind of additional polish just feels above and beyond Its lovely to see such care put into an app Highly recommended                 Work of art
Please add the word thirsty to the dictionary                 Missing word
Im living in Japan and I rely on this app everyday Its my favorite Japanese app by far The interface is clean the information shown is useful and I find the translate feature more useful than google translate                 My favorite Japanese app
My iTouch has the most recent software but this still hasnt been updated But it works fine on my iPad and I use it everyday in Japan Best Japanese dictionary for the iPad iTouch PLEASE update it again                 Needs to be updated
Midori is one of my two most used tools for Japanese study the other being Anki This is one of the best polished app Ive seen in the App Store I also love that Midori lets you hyperlink to dictionary entries or the translate tab Ive set up my Anki flashcards with direct links to Midori which is very helpful for studying Ive also used Midori extensively while traveling in Japan to look up words I cant imagine not having it when I was traveling The developer is also amazingly responsive to address issues that are raised which is much appreciated                 Great resource for Japanese study
I feel like life would be strange if I did not have Midori in it Together with Jishoorg it makes up pretty much 100 of my Japanese reference tools The more you put in the more you get out If you are just starting to learn Japanese I really recommend dishing out the cash for it My favorite features Handwriting recognition if youre reading or you see a kanji you dont know while walking around in Japan simply open up Midori and draw it in Then bookmark it for later Bookmarks Midori has a really nice bookmark capabilities allowing you to create folders and subfolders It greatly helped me during my intermediate Japanese lessons in college I created a folder for each lesson and two subfolders inside of that one for kanji and one for vocabulary Thats great in and of itself but its even better knowing that you can make Flashcards perhaps a little underspoken is Midoris flashcard capabilities You can make a set of flashcards at any time out of any of your bookmark sets You can customize it by showing back or front first hiding readings Its great for anyone whos going to be tested Lists Midoris got a bunch of handy built in lists especially for beginners You can learn hiragana and katana right from within Midori via flashcards and Im currently using it to study JLPT N2 kanji The parts of speech lists is great to browse too Notes You can make notes on anything you look up to remind you of where you found it or why you wanted to remember it Also for if Midoris definition happens to be a little off or you want to add another contextual meaning etc Things that need work Midoris builtin translator isnt going to translate sentences for you It mostly plucks the kanji out of the sentence and gives you their readings and meanings Not so helpful when you dont know the grammar for the sentence Hopefully theyll implement one that busts Google Translate in the chops On the plus side you can copy an entire newspaper article and get a kanji list generated for you that you can make flashcards out of No kanji stroke practice This is a little unfair to pin on Midori as there are very few apps on the market that do this but I would very much love to see a function that allows you to study kanji by drawing them to see if theyre right trace them to memorize them that sort of thing Midoris already got the handwriting recognition would need only to incorporate a system that uses it for review and study instead of only searching                 A part of my life
Its admittedly not the most beautiful JapaneseEnglish dictionary app but I think its the best Simplicity is practical in this case The Translate function is its most powerful feature Its not really translation but a massive lookup of every Japanese word the program recognizes in whatever chunk of text is pasted into the tab Each recognized word is highlighted with a dark red font and its short English definition is provided in a small window The latest update optionally adds furigana to the pasted text I find the extremely helpful Thanks                 Just Keeps Getting Better
