SEAiq Free and SEAiq USA are the only marine charting apps with free up-to-date vector charts for the USA and territorial waters. SEAiq Free is a free version of our paid app, SEAiq USA. SEAiq uses ...
I ve looked at various iOS charting apps to find one that leveraged the information available on my boat network speed heading COG depth etc I never found anything that really met my needs I went back and found an app I had liked and rejected a year or so ago SEAiq Pilot There was a lot to like about the app but I d be danged if I was going to spend 400 on an iOS app However I discovered I was confused by how they sell their apps There are really 3 different versions available SEAiq Pilot is intended for use by professional pilots on big ships It has a lot of features focused on that market such as showing separate course vectors for the bow and stern showing the swept path of the vessel showing a trial Rate of Turn and tons of stuff I don t understand 400 SEAiq USA is the recreational version of the program It has 80 90 of the functionality of Pilot It can download and display NOAA and Army Corp of Engineer charts vector and raster 25 SEAiq Open is the same as SEAiq USA but adds the ability to install S 63 as well as charts from PRIMAR and ChartWorld 50 As a recreational boater my take on this is 25 if you need the US Govt charts 50 if you want to buy and load international charts So what did I get for my 25 The things that are important to me Integrated free downloads of NOAA charts Management and quilting of both vector and raster charts Decent WP and route creation and no auto route Very nice route export import backup via GPX files Export of WPs to my MFDs via WPL sentences Very nice import export backup of the app configuration via files Excellent NMEA 0183 handling including diagnostic displays of sentences received data and errors Excellent handling and display of AIS data AIS data is much more useful to me in this app than on my MFDs Nice to haves include Tide and current options several options free and paid Download and display of GRIB data Active Captain integration Various alarms A very cool anchor monitor Also include with the app is the most detailed documentation I ve seen in a product of this kind The doc is available from within the app even when the app isn t connected to the internet Maybe this is old school but I view it s a huge positive I ve dealt with their support on a few questions and received some of the best answers quick complete and informative I ll also note the apps are updated in the app store every few weeks Again this appears to me to be a professional grade offering with serious ongoing development                     A LOT of function and value Dave Anderer
I ve been using this chart plotter app for many years and and extremely pleased with it Accurate economical easy to use and many nice bonus features AIS for example is a really nice touch and great in shipping lanes                     Great navigation App Dp33x
IPad is just the right size screen for me Easy to plot and edit courses Good update support Nice links with ActiveCaptain and AyeTides Easy to see at night without killing night vision Great all around system                     Great system Tomte Mike
Tried half a dozen nav apps sticking with this one Intuitive gestures clear explanations of settings relatively easy to export and import waypoints and routes Still my favorite                     Among the best with Active Captain CiaoBill
I was sailing two weeks ago around Matagorda bay in Texas and use my iPad with SEAiq for navigation Matagorda bay is very shallow and many sand bars it was taking my 35 ft sailboat with 6 draft between sand bars and distance between sand bars very narrow My opinion it very good software with accurate navigation map I was born raised and learn sailing on Baltic Sea for me it is very unusual shallowness of the Texas coast but on my Gouteron 35 I feel very comfortable while navigating with SEAiq Thank you                     Navigation EdVaht
SEAiq free does a great job Just need to down load the free charts and you are set to go No purchases required and lots of extra features The only down side is there is no way to get international charts                     Great sail charts HKMayo
Decent app Needs a current device to be responsive Otherwise pretty good                     Pretty Good ConeyIslandDave
It has great details for depth active captain built in doesn t need data to work once all the maps are downloaded We use it everyday             Great app for everything Marcusrafting
SeaIQ is a useful product for the price                     Good product Auto launch
Remarkably accurate and functional navigation info for free                     Awesome for free Roger632
This is a great app and highly useful when out on big waters It does most of the functions that software costing 100s per year do                     Very Useful Bill12357
I have been using this app now for about 2 years Right now using it on an older gen 2 iPad that is a little slow but still works well I use it beside my MFD while cruising as my main chart system I find the charting and GPS to be really accurate At this point I do not use the AIS function but do use with my Active Captain login I had an issue after an update but sent an email through the app and it was quickly fixed Overall I d say it s a really great program With the ability to download the latest charts form NOAA for free you just can t bet it I would recommend it to anyone at this point who are costal cruisers Since I ve never really used it for off shore I cannot tell you anything about that Thanks guys for a great app                     Excellent App The Intrepid Guy
Their free and option to buy open and commercial I m sure I paid for something although not much but can only use the free app I m missing something             Who knows Duane2312
I was looking for a navigation app that could receive NMEA data SEAiq does it beautiful Now I have a powerful chart plus all my boats instruments in one easy to read display AIS integration is great                     Easy to use MC Hat
I ve tried pretty much all of the available apps for nav Even the more expensive ones I found cumbersome with difficult user interface But for the past 2 seasons I ve used this app exclusively In fact I now mount my iPad above my pedestal chart plotter and have found myself only using this app with the fixed chartplotter as backup Very easy to use intuitive nice integration of activecaptain and tide graphs Simple to send your saved waypoints and routes to your other devices Incredible help response from the developer Lets you choose layout I prefer the old raster layout which many newer apps don t support I have nothing critical to say Absolutely perfect app                     Hands down the best boating nav app Thisoldfish
I have a number of iPad apps for nag I have been using this program for quite awhile now and love it It provides a seamless way to navigate through your charts Wish my chart plotter worked as well BTW the support is just fantastic                     Simply the best Capemiker
If you purchase this with a prior iOS system you will lose your purchase app with the update They don t care     Only works with ios8 Arr Shiver
Intuitive and excellent automated chart update process                     Excellent Ericmears
This is an outstanding program Love the integration of the winds and pressure data being displayed as well as the AIS data Also the integration of Active Captain info and tide app data is awesome I really did extensive trials on other well known sailing boating navigation apps and SEAiq was by far the best in functionality needed for my husband and I for sailing The flexibility and intuitive addition of way points to a route function is great and each leg direction distance showing when a route is selected The improvements I would like to see are integration of precipitation weather waypoints standing out more when the route is not selected and maybe navigation markers be a little more highlighted although it s good enough Overall terrific program                     SEAiq Free H2O Bungalow
Not a flashy interface but it all works well and it works with my onboard wifi nmea interface for sailing data I ll get more time on it next season but I m really happy with the app including the in app purchase for WAY less than the big names                     So far so good SailingZahn
It s nice having both raster and vector charts available I use this solely as an electronic chart viewer Seems pretty limited as a backup chart plotter                     Good chart viewer Av8rsailor
Great app thus far Since it s winter on East Coat I can t comment on it in use but I have set up routes and waypoints getting ready for summer It s is very easy to use and to set up waypoints and the send those waypoint to routes The chart display looks great and detailed The customer service is exceptional I sent an email with a question and had reply back within a couple hours on a Sunday Looks and works great and sure beats spending 700 on a chart plotter Can t give it 5 stars until spring and I get it out on the water                 Great Captain CRk
The app works great and does everything it s supposed to do However my ipad doesn t have GPS my iPhone does and it is supposed to be able to share the phones I have been trying for three weeks to figure out how to do that unsuccessfully The technical support is less than stellar thus only four stars                 Great app unless your trying to link ipad to phone His knobs
Without going into lengthy and boring details this app saved my life It s simply the one app you NEED if you are looking for an iOS navigation app                     This App Saved My Life Bacon Pirate
It s difficult to come up with a catchy title to get quick attention I started with a program called NaviMaq on a small black and white notebook and now take an IPad to sea with me This chart program is now my go to Nav program I am still intrigued by the ability to update these charts when available I like having Vector charts The bells and whistles are coming faster than I can use The company also responds to questions in a timely manner I have purchased a dozen Nav programs and rate this the best This app on the iPad is excellent to have on the boat since I carry this when the other captain is in charge to stay in touch with vessel operations If someone is looking for an excellent and evolving program this is it                     Excellent Nav Program Sarcastic Fringehead
It does not integrate well with AC It not only does not let you update anything but does not even show you the reviews on each marina I will try the chartplotter part when I get back to the states from Canada         Poor active captain integration Allegria2
It takes forever to see the chart     Too S L o w Benigntumor
I gave this a try for the Active Captain support which works well but too a very long time to synchronize Overall the app is painfully slow when zooming panning etc on my iPad 3 It takes multiple seconds to update the display any time the chart is panned or zoomed and that makes it really hard to use for trip planning It also takes forever to bring up additional info on selected points The quality of the NOAA vector charts was otherwise very good         Painfully slow on iPad 3 david.jade
I love that it downloads the maps for my region i had a question and the developer was back to me very quickly with thoughful useful response I use a Garmin device in the cockpit of our sailboat so i probably won t use on my iPhone they don t like salt water much but I love the app for planning and reviewing areas                     SVP KarlLeigh
Worthless forces you to buy update Save your time find another App     Worthless rlm20001
This is a great cheap app You get a free chart of your choice Very easy to sync routes and waypoints between iPad and iPhone via email A nice choice for anyone that wants to explore marine gps capabilities of the iPhone and iPad                     Great navigation app hiker100
I was encouraged that this update enabled ActiveCaptain support and sure enough you can enter your login info and it will display the markers However you cannot get any of the info from the markers without paying for the upgrade Deceptive How is one to evaluate this software as an effective portal to ActiveCaptain just be seeing the markers but not being able to see the contents         ActiveCaptain not really enabled WildIrishGirl
This is the worst app I have downloaded It consistently fails to download charts selected and displays multiple error messages The app developer has not responded to multiple requests for help in resolving these issues If you decide to try this app GOOD LUCK It is not worth the price at this point     No help Scout 30
I use Active Captain a lot Read in there newsletter about this app It may be a good product but will not allow AC interface in free version     No active Captain in free version Pete13763
I have downloaded and paid for a number of charting apps but this one is going to be the best of all The ease of chart handling is excellent I am not bothered by the fact that the free version is limited to 1 50 000 or greater don t worry about some silly people never getting beyond the picture of the globe oh boy Also had excellent communication with the author Rarely would you find a more friendly knowledgeable and helpful person Keep it going                     Great Software SebastianSTL
Why bother creating a free version if it has zero features No maps are available in the free version Useless     Why bother TheN4cer
P O S Can t do anything unless u pay for the upgrade And I mean nothing all it does is show u a pic of the globe     PeteEpete petecie
The SEAiq app was ideal for bringing a 21 Wharram catamaran sailboat home from the Florida keys to north of West Palm Beach some 170 miles on the Intracoastal Waterway Loaded for two men on a four day trip there is not much room on this sized boat for big paper charts I downloaded the free NOAA charts for the Florida East Coast and the Keys a one time event Once the charts are on the iPad I did not need to connect to the Internet again As you sail along the SEAiq app finds the next chart matches the scale and displays it for you relatively seamlessly We had some 30 bridges to negotiate so we used the waypoints to store bridge names most often not available on the charts We also stored bridge clearance height and bridge opening time schedule This provided the information I needed to talk to a bridge tender when I needed to request an opening We used the waypoints and route tool to get distance measurements to calculate our fuel consumption on the previous days motoring Then on a windless morning in Biscayne Bay we used the same app tools to determine that we were too low on fuel to motor all the way to the fuel dock in Miami We idled conserving fuel for a couple of hours until the wind returned then we sailed until we were close enough to motor the last little bit to the fuel dock Our catamaran sailboat draws less than 2 feet of water The SEAiq app let us customize the deep water safe water and shallow water contours on the chart to match our boat making it easier to safely sail in close to the stilt houses in Biscayne Bay We got some great close up pictures without going aground in shoals there In the keys these contours helped use find protected areas well outside other boat traffic to drop anchor for the night I have had a number of occasions to contact the developer and have found them responsive I really like this app and am looking forward to some of the improvements they are working on I was blown away with the improvement in the latest version that allowed for back up and sharing my routes and waypoints files by iTunes Dropbox and email It even let me overlay my routes on Google Earth so I could find photos and land mark information along my planned route Great Stuff                     Amazing large screen GPS on the iPad DFKipp
Nice picture of globe but nothing else deleted this ap stars for globe pic                     Nouse Gone 2
