Texpad is a latex editor for the iPad featuring autocomplete, cloud typesetting, and dropbox integration. Texpad has been designed from the start to deal with large projects. Given a single LaTeX root file, Texpad will ...
This app is suitable for doing some light texxing on the go but is unsuitable as a replacement for a standard text editor on the computer It is a far better solution than other iOS apps such as VerbTex or web apps such as Overleaf Autocompletion doesn t work as one would expect and doesn t happen consistently For instance typing a left bracket followed by a backspace will result in a stray right bracket remaining in the text Typing to begin math mode will provide a closing left bracket rather than a closing Typing adds the ending with the cursor positioned between them but after I ve finished typing the math I don t know a quick way to reposition the cursor after the closing When I have keyboard attached I can hit the arrow keys until I m back where I would have been Typing say somecommand will not insert the right bracket whereas somecommand will insert the right bracket There are other situations where the paired bracket does not appear Overall the situation makes it very difficult to type without making bracket matching mistakes The preferences panel only has one option for autocompletion it must either be on or off So I m left to choose between enabling the totally broken autocompletion of brackets that I ve just described or disabling the reasonable and useful autocompletion of environments adding an end proof for example which does work Both options are bad Buttons on the added keyboard bar don t necessarily work For instance comment doesn t make a comment whether I have text selected or not Pressing the button seems to do nothing at all Downloading extra fonts was a terrible experience It often just gave a download failed error with no way to try again I had to restart the app in order to get it to try again It slowly downloaded something like thirty thousand files and took me many attempts and days of trying One should really make it so their iPad doesn t lock when trying to perform this operation         Frustrating and unpolished bazoobazoo
I have always been looking for such app and here it is It has been doing an excellent job so far It is unfortunate that it does not support eps files locally but it does not matter It is fabulous for simple tasks beamers etc etc Do not expect a desktop version It does what it should on an iPad P S Clicking on a certain spot is very difficult The cursor jumps randomly from place to place I do not think that it is hard to fix in the next update                     Excellent so far But (Farhad)
This is a Godsend for people who want to do technical writing in iOS I particularly like the two panel mode where the pdf output is continually updated as one types in the source files Initially the app didn t work well with mysterious hangs and other weird behaviors these were largely resolved by removing and re downloading the app After this the app worked very well I have a few minor quibbles the typesetting speed is several times slower than a competing product and it would be nice if the synchronization between the source and output worked both ways All in all a great product and I hope it keeps improving                     Excellent TeX platform wb7vtv
if you re gonna do a simple one file Latex project I suppose all of the advertised features would work well I bought it for a project with figures placed in folders for each chapter and chapters broken into individual TEX files and I m having the hardest time even copying the files around The folders are impossible to create in the Connect drive the app crashes if you try to copy larger number of files in a batch I got it cause it was supposed to be the best latex app for the iPad but I m disappointed with all the bugs The app feels like an early beta         buggy for more complex projects stan.nikola
Seems to work fine for basic files but has problems with both sty and cls files Also has issues with chapters or sections using include I hope they fix these problems soon         Good for basic files Triman38
I was looking for an app that would allow me to compile the files I use when traveling Most often these are Beamer presentations that use TIKZ images etc After downloading all the extra packages Texpad asked me to download the app crashes every 2 minutes and it never compiles my presentation Now the app looks really nice and seems to be promising I can compile without problem v basic files Unfortunately I can t travel without my computer as I can t rely on this or any other LaTeX app Hope it gets better in the future         Good for basic usage Obi-van
Thanks for deleting an important tex file i had worked on for such long time My tex file became 0 bytes in dize when I moved it to my Dropbox folder The file was removed from my iPhone as well and not available on Dropbox So unreliable     Lost my Tex file VERY UNRELIABLE Hamzed
It crashes when asked to generate the PDF Please fix     Cannot generate PDF in iPhone 7s plus Flywithkids
This is really crappy     I cant save the generated PDF file at all Amith Narayan
I ve not been using this app for very long but so far it works very well I am writing my thesis on it and it has been great I love that all the chapters of my thesis are in the outline so I can just click on them and it opens the chapter file Very convenient I also love the autocomplete                     So far quite lovely FubiniFubunny
App keeps crashing and slowing system down Same project compiles with no issues with TexWriter     Could not compile anything Fax_82
I type TeX on this with a Bluetooth keyboard and it s great In no way do I feel like it s a mobile version of LaTeX It is complete with packages and code completion and compilation and all that jazz                     Fantastic dannydarvish
App crashes every time I try to make a new project in Dropbox     Crashes with Dropbox WxClimate
I just spent the cost of a glass of wine on an app that is not able to typeset a short file I have been using latex professionally for many years and published many books and technical papers with it I thought it would be nice to have an iPad version for simple documents This app simply does not work I think Apple should force developers to offer a free trial of their apps say for one day or even five hours just to be able to screen out the duds I discarded the app and took note of the developer Buyers beware     Doesn t work JC-Berkeley
I am used to using TexStudio on my PC and Mac TexStudio is packed with features and one of the most important is when you have a master file with include for chapters Texpad delivers an equal set of functionality that TexStudio provides I have had a few sessions writing on my iPad with TexPad and found very minimal problems Occasionally the application will crash but considering it is compiling a tex file and all the images into a PDF I can give it a pass Great application worth the money                     What I wanted Justin Shultz
So far this app works great for my computer science classes I haven t run into any problems with the local typesetter and the multitasking on iPad Pro works well The one thing I d like to see is better support for external keyboards some keyboard shortcuts would make this better than even most Mac LaTeX editors I ve used Keep up the good work                     Excellent productivity tool base12innovations
I ve been using this app for a few years now it works great The offline local typesetting is convenient for when there isn t wifi just remember you might need to download some extra bundles easy to do through the program Cloud typesetting is pretty quick The TeX files can t have spaces but that isn t an issue if you make your files through the app It organizes things nicely too                     Works better than I expected omnom the third
Works a lot smoother since the update Extremely useful if you work with LaTeX often                     Great LaTeX and Markdown editor Alex XT
TeX is a monstrous memory hog yet the engineers managed to shoehorn not just a fully functional TeX engine but an impressive library of support software as well The app is not just clever engineer too the layout of the keyboard is made for real users and that goes for the workflow of the app too Just amazing                 Extraordinary engineering
Brilliant implementation                 Editing Markdown TeX on the Fly
This app is a godsend I wouldnt be able to tex without it Paired with a Bluetooth keyboard my iPad is swiftly replacing my laptop                 Best I have found so far
I have used this only for shorter documents 15 pages of text so far I have not used it for formulae extensive tables or anything resembling more than a short paper of text However it has been exemplary For LaTeX or XeLaTeX on the run with an iPad air it has been very helpful                 Great so far
After trying very very hard to be happy with the other two latex systems available on iOS I was ready to give up on TeXing on the iPad Im just too busy to fool around with systems that arent at least as good as my desktop or laptop I had written a few sections of articles on both of them but they were both just too buggy and weird After 10 minutes with Texpad its clear that I will be changing my tune I cranked out the first page of a small article in a few minutes Every serious issue that came up was solved by looking at the documentation It looks great and seems to be fast The short term endorphin rush that came after finding a new a new reason to hope for a great LaTex system for the iPad was well worth the 10 out of my pocket I hope this thing works for writing entire articles We shall see                 Wow Finally
It was a really great app until it didnt work at all after upgrading to iOS 71 Most recent problem Very unstable App hangs up during startup Trying to load last opened tex file Buttons are not responding Who broke it Apple or the developers who are not aware of this bug Doesnt apple provide in advance the updates to developers so they can test the software before the release date I had figured out myself a possible workaround to this issue is to do a complete reinstall of the app Markdown support is limited and I hope Math and source code formatting is going to be added soon to Texpad Not there yet        Not workingunstable under iOS 71
This app really makes sense for the LaTeX user on the go Very functional especially with the sync to Dropbox I wish there was LaTeX help canned in the app and it would be nice to have line numbers and a spell checker like in TeXedit for Linux but this app is great overall              Very Functional
By far the best LaTeX editor I have come across                 Amazing LaTeX editor
When I try to link it with Dropbox it crashes Had to select the password box first and username second so it doesnt crash App seems nice so far        Crashes with Dropbox
I loved the app when I started playing around with it Interface was great and has great potential But the app keeps crashing anytime I try to connect with dropbox Sometimes when I just open texpad it freezes and closes Ill keep trying but for 10 I expected fewer issues When this problem stops Ill reevaluate     Crashes
Ive tried several apps for writing and compiling tex documents this is by far the best Of the many apps Ive tried none have been as reliable or have had as clean of an interface Especially great features include 1 seamless and automatic synch with Dropbox 2 easy downloadinstall of any extra packages needed to compile a document 3 somewhat useful error messages novel I know This app is well worth the price                 Best tex app
It is nice to see developers recognizing the need to do LaTeX on the iPad Although my projects generally require a laptop I am nonetheless hopeful for LaTeXs future on iPads                 Great product
TexPad helped me to become a happier healthier more confident man I recommend it to everyone I meet Buy it now                 This app is truly amazing
The app is a great TeX editor and the processing works as long as you arent using complex custom files I am looking forward to what the developers have next The app is excellent and hopefully more integration with the Mac version will come including iCloud                 Great App
Cant compile documents that work fine on desktop system or the other main iOS LaTeX app Characters like em dash and parentheses dont compile correctly Never can find bounding boxes of image files Cant compile citations correctly Cursor gestures are great but after several rewrites the basics are still broken        Just doesnt work
I am an experienced LaTeX user anxious to get a solution that would actually allow me to use the iPad for work Ive tried every other app in the store and this is the most promising Dropbox integration local compiling and a nice UI Customer support has been responsive As an added bonus the corresponding OSX app is great Ive replaced TexShop with it                 The best tex app yet
Perhaps the greatest LaTeX app in the App Store TexPad offers plenty of great features Its errorchecking system pinpoints your errors and lets you fix them easily Also using the usepackage command in the preamble for an uncommon package will prompt the app to search for the package and offer you an easy way to download it My only con is that the app began crashing repeatedly every time I tried to type the word individual Immediately after these hiccups it asked me if I wanted to review the app so here I am hoping this reviewll make this seemingly sentient app happy er appy I apologize for that sad pun not even I laughed at it Heres to happy Texing Buy this app its worth it Also RIP Nelson Mandela              Blown Away in Broward
Not as good as there desktop version You need to have a better file management system especially for the Connect           Not so good
This is a remarkable achievement Bringing TeX to iOS is no mean feat Yes there are some missing bits fontspec for example but by and large this is a perfectly usable TeX environment I use it constantly DropBox syncing is a major boon All in all if you need TeX this is an excellent choice                 TeX on the iPad
I have the desktop version of this app and I have it connected to my dropbox so what I do flows from the iphone to the ipad to the imac to the laptop it feels natural The only thing I wish was there in both apps is an equation helper not necessarily a graphical editor As I have a memory of a fish I need something to refresh my memory sense I write my papers every two to three months Also I would like to see a good use of the iphone 6 plus space and the portrait mode which will make my life even easier                 Excellent App
Very nice interface and it works and compiles well Some additional packages that were needed to compile were downloaded and installed easily without pain My only complaint is that when I move away from the editor and go back in it doesnt remember my position and takes me again to the beginning of the document              Works well overall
Overall editing and debugging really surprised me Much more fluid than I expected Dropbox syncing has been alright so far I created a file in the app saved to Dropbox and edited it on my desktop When I reopened the file in the app it asked if I want to stick with the local copy or overwrite it with the Dropbox version However theres room for improvement I would have appreciated it if the app defaulted to the most recent copy or at least indicated which was the most recent version when asking which I wanted to use But its usable the way it is My only real beef with this appand for me this is a deal breakeris that I cannot get it to use a local style file I need for a journal article submission This style file includes a clo that works just fine in TexMaker but this app refuses to recognize So I cannot use this app to do the job I bought it for If support for local packages was included I would say 5 stars As is its not much use to me           Need to add additional support for local style files
Texpad coupled with a Dropbox editor satisfies my needs for publishing book manuscripts and research papers and its far more portable than Scrivener or Storyist Fantastic product If I could wish for something it would be a more comfortable text editor Right now I use it for small edits to the text and of course for TeX                 Who needs Scrivener or Storyist
Im on an iPad air here It serves the purpose well will recommend getting it you can absolutely do LaTeX on the road with this Packages and all that stuff works well obvious do some prep and go download all the spacious stuff over wifi though Links well with DropBox w some privacy Without giving access to all your files in other folders Many neat features such as the autocomplete suggestion for TeX code useful document overview scrolldown menu for easy navigation Copypaste keyboard shortcuts work seamlessly on my Logitech Bluetooth keyboard so its just like working on a laptop with an added touch screen functionality Issue 1 Why doesnt the PDF preview remember your position in the document While writing this would be highly useful Quite annoying that it doesnt actually Issue 2 This may not be possible with sandboxing and all that but is it possible to have the PDF open in a different window Even having a separate view app to download which say reloads the same file every once in a while would be awesome productivitywise compared to the current way of things Issue 3 Id like to be able to have full search functionality though especially given the amount of one shells out for it The search function has a couple of issues 31 In landscape mode which any serious user with a bluetooth keyboard is likely to use search doesnt take you to the place in the text you searched for Not clear what the issue is but it seems likely that the programmer simply forgot to think of the fact that there are fewer but longer lines on the screen when its in landscape mode 32 Search is like my 90 yo grandma and doesnt remember what you last searched for very annoying since in combination with 1 it really has you scrambling around typing the same stuff many times 33 Theres no searchandreplace Why not Suggestion Could one add keyboardtouch integration a la how a mousetrackpad would work Itd be a natural motion to place the cursor somewhere then hold down the SHIFT button and touch somewhere else to select the text in between oldnew cursor point I take myself doing this constantly and wondering why it doesnt work              Mostly excellent buggy search forgetful preview function
Texpad is a great tool for learning LaTeX and to process LaTeX files I recently started using LaTeX again after 20 years and the interface allows me to edit tweak files with relative ease without connecting a Bluetooth keyboard I use this app to debug and fine tune my files that were generated or exported from other Open Source software If youre using TeX I recommend adding Texpad to your tool chest Melioratus                 Texpad is an Excellent App
Every time I see an update to this app I am hopeful that there will be a spell checker included Every time I am left disappointed Every other app includes one so why does a word processing app not It doesnt make any sense        Spell check
Well this is probably most wonderful Latex custom app We can customize process of making step by step and can download lots of packages easily This is GREAT and worth it However Kotex support is not real kotex support and when I write Korean it gives me error by unicode Also When I use implies it print out and Rightarrow but these two are seems disjoint                 Well this is great
This isnt just the best Tex app for iPad its one of the best designed apps period Creating a LaTex app for iPad is incredibly difficult but the solutions the developers created for managing packages communicating error messages and synchronizing files with Dropbox are simply ingenious Never again will I take my laptop on the road just to have access to LaTex                 Game Changer
Im pretty new to LaTeX When I say new I mean very This is my first semester ever using TeX so my experience is pretty limited The only other LaTeX software that Ive used is a cloudbased program That said I can definitely say that this is much better Having a local compiler is wayyyyyy better than using a cloud service Im using Texpad on an iPad mini 2 and I can say that the compiler is nice and zippy Im using it to Tex up assignments for grad school and this is definitely the best experience Ive ever had TLDR version Ive got barely any experience using any other LaTeX software and Im not likely to get any I really like this app                 Awesome LaTeX experience
Ill start with the bad Do not even think about using the Dropbox sync feature with this app For one thing it completely freaks out whenever you lose your wifi connection whichhellois all the time when you have an iPad randomly quitting prompting you for a network connection making random pointless backup copies of your open documents and so on And it frequently syncs in the wrong direction which is just preposterous How difficult is it to write a program that never overwrites a newer version of a file with an older one without prompting the user I once thought Id lost several days of work because of this and was only able to get it back by retyping it from the pdf So why am I giving it five stars Because in every other respect it is spectacular It manages LaTeX packages efficiently automatically downloading all and only the ones you need and compiles everything locally which is wonderful for those of us who need to type on the go It used to be a bit slow but that has been fixed in recent versions The font is quite pleasing to the eyes the syntax highlighting color scheme is great and the onscreen keyboard makes those LaTeXy characters such as the back quote and dollar sign nice and accessible Compiling is a bit of a battery hog but not horribly so and thats to be expected I still havent gotten BibTeX to work using this software but that isnt a huge issue for me One thing that does work quite well is autocomplete of entries from my bib file Anyway thanks to TeXPad it is now possible to write your dissertation or masters thesis on your iPad And thats just cool                 Finally local LaTeX on the iPad
I dont know much at all about Latex but I am learning Texpad has been a great resource for that process The error logs command prompts and package handling are very useful For ease of use and the fun of learning I give it 5 stars Oh I almost forgot to mention that the interface is very nice It makes learning very enjoyable Thanks for a great product                 Learning Latex
Ive converted to using only TeXPad to compile my LaTeX mostly simple stuff but some packages as well Works great Dump your files in Dropbox you can edit from your Mac as well                 Bravissimi
Please hurry up with version 17 for fontspec This app has so much potential I have been waiting patiently for an update xelatex is useless without fontspec        NO fontspec WHERE IS V17 LETS GO ALREADY
This is a great app for those wishing to move some texing from laptop to tablet It still has a few bugs including some font issues I have encountered when using Beamer to make slides Dont expect great speed more of a hardware than software problem It is worth the              Promising app
This app is an excellent replacement for many plain text editors on the App Store It highlights syntax is extensible does LateX and has excellent exportdocument conversion options But Like other code editors it would benefit greatly from a dark mode like Molokai or Desert Theyre better for viewing syntactic structure Also workflows like those in Editorial would make this app irreplaceable              Great Add color schemes
UPDATE since writing the negative review below Ive noticed marked improvements in the developers customer communication response sensitivity to issues Thanks Also the biggest complaint I had in my initial review was regarding the poor workings of the Dropbox integration syncing However since the recent complete Dropbox rewrite in version 162 this is now working very well At this point Im a very satisfied customer INITIAL REVIEW see update above This app looked promising and I was initially very happy until I realized that Dropbox sync features were not working I have been tinkering with it in various ways reinstalling from the ground up etc however I still run into the same problems Instead of updating overwriting file it creates new file in Dropbox folder with 1 2 and so on appended to file name Then when I update on my computer after autosyncing the file on iPad has not updated Very frustrating Additionally Ive been having this issue for at least a couple of months now Still waiting for an update and resolution If they want this to be the best LaTeX solution on the iPad market the developers response time has got to improve                 The LaTeX solution for the iPad
If you synchronize a file with DropBox you will get multiple copies labeled 2 3 etc This is more than a nuisance you cant tell which file is the most current easily The developers are aware of this they give an excuse on their website blaming DropBox However there has to be a solution as other similar apps do not have the same problem           DropBox integration is buggy
TeXpad is amazing A newbie to the world of LaTeX I enjoy kicking back with my iPad and scouring the copious manuals tutorials and examples available online Until I discovered TeXpad however whatever new concept or skill I learned by reading Id have to put to the test by firing up my computer TeXpad allows me to learn and to practice on the same device                 Fantastic tool
You can edit and compile tex files offline Dropbox sync is possible but slow The interface needs many improvements Keyboard has an extra row but you need to slide it to left to get some symbols like easier to use the original keyboard And those extra buttons are silent So keyboard must be designed again Moving the cursor is difficult You can use two fingers to move the cursor but it is not easy to get it where you want If you decide to go left while moving it up you need to stop place your fingers again and then move to left Selecting a word is also problematic Often it selects something else and one needs to try several times to manage Is there an undo button somewhere I dont know There could be more navigation possibilities like sliding left to compile and see the PDF There is no spellcheck It is not clear if you can include a picture from your photo album obviously I can move it to Dropbox first and But this should not be difficult to do within ipad Where are the search find replace There is an icon shaped magnifier and it says search for a text but it does not When you compile the PDF starts from the first page regardless of the position of the cursor Why The app is expensive when the price of the app compared with the design and functionality Otherwise it works and says what it does        Works but
Ive been waiting for an iOS app that can compile LaTeX locally for at least 4 years I only use computers for word processing and now I dont have to have an expensive and heavy laptop to do it This app works so seamlesslybeautiful clear interface syncs with Dropbox perfectly handles macros and multidocument no bugsI figure it mustve been in the works for a while It even typesets multiple times automatically to handle references                 Been waiting years for something like this
I like the magic keyboard and the way it predicts and suggests latex commands As a standalone app its great But working on large documents with texpad connect was painful Syncing wasnt good and the PDF produced on the iPad version was weird Also no iCloud sync Not many options for people without Dropbox accounts           Good but only as a standalone app
I have been using this app to set a number of documents It works well with Dropbox even with subfolders Ive been able to use many many packages over the online typesetting I have been able to use many packages on the iPad itself A few things about this app are really great The document outline makes it easy to jump to a specific part of a large document The error tracker is very helpful in its simplicity Syntax highlighting is great For the most part it helpfully autocompletes syntax and maintains nice indentation A few things Id like to see 1 which packages are actually in which bundle 2 a progress bar or indicator on setting when it is happening locally 3 support for iCloud drive Google Drive etc                 Great TeX App
At first it was great that I could edit LaTex files on my iPad Typesetting formatting etc was all working great Then tonight after two hours of writing I close the file and then accidentally close the project When I reopened the project that chapter was missing The changes did not sync with DropBox theres no indication while editing that a sync is even happening and the file wont even open manually from within the app I can open the chapter just fine on my laptop but all my changesedits from the last two hours are lost Save your money dont waste your time dont buy this app     Lost 2hrs of dissertation work
The app is in general great but this update is unstable the program crashes on launch I hope they fix it soon since my workflow is on ice til then     Crashes on launch
Ive been using Texpad for about a month Im a research fellow at Oxford and Im very happy with it Good Dropbox support and offline compilation is great Package management has been no problem Theyve even been responsive when I encountered a bug on an old version of iOS and pushed out a bugfix for me quickly Worth it would buy again                 Offline compilation Dropbox and bug support
As a physics student latex is the main text editor I use for homeworks this is the only app that has proven to be almost as efficient as working on a desktop computer The navigation comands are unique                 Great app
And this app fills that void Now I can leave my laptop at home when traveling to conferences                 There is a hole in your ipad
Its quite amazing how well this works Its an almost completely smooth transition from typesetting in a desktop environment Downloading the extra packages is a tiny bit annoying installing them can take a very long time and occasionally cause crashes More granular control over package management would help with that but would also be more work for the user One or two of the more exotic packages seem a bit buggy I noticed weirdness with ligatures in fouriernc and I wonder whether Ill have to redownload the whole bundle ifwhen they get updated But mostly these are edge case complaints and the program is hugely valuable to me              A marvel
Its great to have LaTeX editing and typesetting on iPad without need for internet connection Works great The create project function is a little quirky and it may be difficult to load needed bundles on older devices But for my iPad Air it works great Glad I got it              Very Handy
I have used Latex all my professional life as an academic I had high hopes of getting an easy to use iPad latex package This is not the answer Its incredibly buggy Files that format perfectly on my Mac dont even open on this It complains about the files containing nonstandard characters Dont waste your money     Broken software
